Namaste!!
I am sure you can all agree, the times we are living in right now are unprecedented! We have all had to alter our lives in one way or another. Some changes we are happy about and others we may wish didn’t have to be. Regardless, this is the perfect time for reflection and self-discovery…the perfect time to see the good that has evolved during these times.
I am excited to have a guest post today from a dear student Mary G. Mary has truly found ways to appreciate the life we are living in now, which reminds me of this past post.
I hope you will enjoy her post and let us know in the comments below what you have discovered about yourself during the past 100 days.
100 days!!
Would you have believed back in March that we would be sheltering in place for over 100 days? I’ve been reflecting on these past few months and thinking of what I’ve discovered about myself.
I live alone and due to the shelter in place, hadn’t been able to see my son, daughter-in-law, and grandson for what seemed like forever. When they surprised me with a Mother’s Day visit (all masked and gloved!) I can’t express how very precious their hugs were. I will not ever forget that feeling of being hugged for the first time in over two months.
I feel I’ve become much more appreciative of so many everyday things:
My garden – I can spend hours in my garden, reading, knitting, and drawing, and not feeling in the least like pulling weeds and watering are a chore! My garden is bursting with flowers and vegetables that I will be enjoying long into the Fall months.
Technology – I can connect with my family and friends near and far and see for myself that they are healthy and making their ways through this crazy time with grace and laughter. And where would we be without Nicole, Celina, and Jennifer beaming into our homes bringing us the gifts of their empathy, yogic energy, and support?
Walking – I’ve always loved going for walks and have discovered on my very early morning walks how much more I appreciate the beauty of sunrises and new routes through surrounding neighborhoods – beautiful homes, beautiful landscaping, and kind fellow walkers and runners waving good morning.
I am the kind of person who feels like she always needs to be ‘doing something.’ I’ve learned to give myself a break and surrender to my physical and emotional needs – resting when my body needs to; reading when I need to get lost in another world.
I’ve become more forgiving of myself – especially not beating myself up for those Covid19 pounds that are showing up on my hips (I blame the sourdough)!
I am discovering that I should and can be more patient with myself, more thankful for the family and gifts I’ve been given, and so grateful to be alive.
What discoveries have you made about yourself??
